BRASÍLIA (BDCi) – After coming in third place in the general elections, environmentalist Marina Silva has announced her support for presidential candidate Aécio Neves in the second round.
Neves recently stated his ideas and plans for land reform, rural communities and the environment, the same issues that formed a critical part of Silva’s campaign.
Silva has cited Neves’s “commitments” as the reason for her support.
President Dilma Rousseff, the incumbent candidate for president, says Silva’s choice of endorsement is “understandable.”
Silva grew up in a poor family of rubber tappers in the Amazon. She is a former environment minister and has even begun her own political movement, the Sustainability Network (Rede Sustentabilidade).
