CASCAVEL (BDCi) – According to police in the southern Brazilian city of Cascavel, rioters in a jail have killed four fellow inmates and injured others.
Two victims were pushed off the roof of the prison, while the other two victims were decapitated.
Two guards (one pictured above) have also been taken hostage.
Between 700 and 1,000 prisoners are said to be part of the uprising that began Sunday (24) morning.
The prisoners are reportedly unhappy with the food and hygiene in the prison, as well as with how the prison is run.
Some believe the rival prison gangs are using the riot to their advantage and settling scores.
Guards have not been able to retrieve the bodies of the four victims. The rioting prisoners are said to be using one of the severed heads to psychologically torture one of the hostages.
Negotiations between authorities and the rioters started up again Monday (25) morning.
