BRASÍLIA (BDCi) – Police in Brazil have uncovered a hidden network of child pornography in an operation spanning 18 Brazilian states, the federal district of Brasília and five other countries.
Operation “Darknet” found child pornography made in Brazil being shared with suspects in Portugal, Italy, Colombia, Venezuela and Mexico.
During the year-long operation, 55 people have been arrested and 100 arrest warrants have been issued.
In addition, six children have been rescued from abusive situations across Brazil.
The “darknet” refers to a sub world on the Internet to which most users are oblivious, also known as the “Dark Web.”
Brazil followed techniques used by the FBI and Scotland Yard, who have managed to crack this part of the World Wide Web in the past.
