Visitors in for a surprise when arriving in Brazil

1 Mins read

RIO DE JANEIRO (BDCi) – It is no secret that preparations for the 2014 World Cup stadiums in Brazil have been plagued by construction delays.

While authorities insist that Brazil is ready to receive all the international fans landing in the South American country this week, they may encounter other inconveniences.

Traveling to the 12 dispersed host cities will also prove challenging, as there are no passenger rail connections in the continent-sized country.

Even though Winter will soon hit Brazil, fans may see temperatures of close to 80 degrees in Rio de Janeiro.

Experts point to excessive government control and poor planning for problems being experienced at Brazil’s airports, including incomplete scaffolding, terminal flooding and outdated architecture.

Upon further inspection of Rio de Janeiro’s earlier this year investigators discovered plugged-up urinals, blocked emergency exits, and out-of-date fire extinguishers.

In Brasília, it took only 20 minutes of heavy rainfall to flood a brand new airport.

Furthermore, visitors will find that outlets and Wi-Fi in airports are not standard and no knowledge of written or spoken Portuguese may make reading signs and communication with local authorities difficult.
