Prosecutors focus on corruption in Rio

1 Mins read

RIO DE JANEIRO (BDCi) – The Center for Combating Corruption was launched by federal prosectors in Rio de Janeiro, a special unit aimed at tackling civil and criminal malpractice.

Since the unit’s inception in mid-June, ten prosecutors have opened investigations into bribery, embezzlement and breaches of confidentiality.

An official statement says the prosecutors have 600 civil proceedings and 700 criminal cases that they are currently investigating.

By classifying both criminal and civil corruption on the same level, the Center sends a strong message to those who work in the public services.

Last year, the military police in Rio was found to be the most corrupt police force in the nation.
