Brazil World Cup most expensive in history

1 Mins read

BRASÍLIA (BDCi) – According to analysts, the 2014 World Cup will be the most expensive, valuable and lucrative in FIFA’s history.

A record $35 million prize will go to the winning team’s association. FIFA will receive a commercial revenue of $4 billion.

The $35 million first prize comes out to less than 1% of FIFA’s revenue for the tournament and most of its $4 billion income will be paid by broadcasters and sponsors.

Fans that purchase tickets and licensed merchandise will also contribute hundreds in revenue for FIFA.

Brazil will pay an estimated $14 billion, the biggest bill of any World Cup. FIFA predicts it will spend $2 billion on the soccer event.

Experts say that by spending money on IT services, ticketing and accommodations, FIFA has helped Brazil’s economy, despite growing unrest and protests from locals, outraged by the tournament’s cost.
