Woman blinded by officer’s pepper spray
BEAUMONT, CA (BDCi) – A Beaumont police officer pleaded not guilty Thursday (26) to four felony charges after being accused of permanently blinding a woman with pepper spray.
The officer, Enoch Clark, sprayed Monique Christina Hernandez, 32, in the face with pepper spray, trying to arrest her on suspicion of DUI.
Clark allegedly sprayed from 12 inches away but the JPX device he was using sprays at speeds of 400 mph and should be used at a minimum distance of five feet.
Hernandez’s right eye apparently exploded and serious nerve damage was sustained to her left eye.
Clark is free on $50,000 bail and has been placed on administrative leave.
