Whitney Houston funeral set for Saturday in New Jersey
(BDCi) – Whitney Houston’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday in the New Jersey church where she honed her voice as a choir girl.
The funeral will be held at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, the Associated Press reported.
Throughout her childhood, Houston was surrounded by powerful female voices. Her mother Cissy was a gospel singer and back-up singer who worked with the likes of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Dusty Springfield.
Aretha Franklin was the youngster’s godmother, and Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick were her cousins.
Houston was found dead Saturday in the bathtub of her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Her body was flown by a private plane Monday to New Jersey.
The investigation into her death by the L.A County coroner’s office has shifted to an examination of the prescription medicines found in her room and whether she had taken any drugs that might have contributed to her demise.
Authorities have collected several bottles of drugs from Houston’s suite at the Beverly Hilton, law enforcement officers told The Times. However, the sources said the amounts of drugs did not seem unusually large, leaving it unclear whether the medications had anything to do with the singer’s death.
