RIO DE JANEIRO (BDCi) – Brazilian police arrested the chief executive of a FIFA partner company on Monday (7) in connection to illegal ticket sales at the 2014 World Cup.
Ray Whelan, a U.K. national from the Switzerland-based Match Hospitality, was taken in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into a recently arrested gang accused of illegally reselling official tickets.
The gang was arrested with 100 game tickets as well as U.S. dollars.
Police announced last week that they had identified the first name of the alleged FIFA official and that he was not Brazilian.
FIFA continues to cooperate fully with local authorities.
Match Hospitality has yet to issue a statement.
