Wall Street protest leads to over 700+ arrests
NEW YORK (BDCi) – Over 700 protesters were arrested for blocking traffic while attempting a march across the span, reports Reuters.
A large group of marchers on the Brooklyn Bridge broke away from their Occupy Wall Street movement on the bridge’s pedestrian walkway and instead made their way to the lanes.
A police spokesman said officers warned the protesters multiple times to stay on the walkway and that taking the roadway would result in arrests. Three buses came to take away the protesters. The majority of those arrested were issued summons and then released.
The march began at the protesters’ camp in downtown Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park at around 3:30pm.
They plan to occupy the park through the winter.
