LONDON, ENGLAND (BDCi) – According to a new report, British children are using American English more and more in their writing.
Oxford University Press studied some 74,000 entries for BBC Radio 2’s 500 Words contest, a short story competition.
Americanisms in many of the entries include cupcake, garbage truck, trash can, candy, sidewalk and soda.
Technology had a big influence as well, with words like Google and app.
The six winners will be announced this Friday.
