Three fans injured in shooting outside Brazil World Cup stadium

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL (BDCi) — Authorities say three fans were injured in a shooting after a match at a World Cup stadium in Brazil over the weekend.

The fans’ injuries were not life threatening.

Police officer Araujo Silva told sports daily Lance that shots were fired by two men riding on a motorcycle as local America supporters left the Arena das dunas in the northeastern city of Natal on Saturday.

It wasn’t the first incident involving fans in Natal this year. Before the stadium’s inauguration in January, police arrested two men who shot at a group of rival fans just a few miles away.

Fan violence has become common ahead of the country’s biggest event the World Cup this summer.

Just a week ago, Corinthians fans attacked the team’s training center and threatened players.
