Thousands of skaters overtake L.A. and Venice
LOS ANGELES, CA (BDCi) – On June 21 skateboarders around the globe celebrates the spirit of one of the most influential activities in the world by blowing off all other obligations to go skateboarding. Is the official national holiday known as “Go Skateboarding Day”.
This is the first time the event is coming to Los Angeles and thousands of skateboarders are expected to converge in downtown Los Angeles this afternoon. The event is to benefit Boards for Bros, a group of skateboarders who collect and refurbish skateboards that are then distributed to children who cannot afford their own. This is part of the celebration of international “Go Skateboarding Day.”
LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said officers are prepared for the large influx of skateboarders.”We are aware of it, and we will monitor it,” Vernon said. “The expectation is that people will follow the law and not disrupt traffic”, reported LA Times.
The other big Go Skateboarding Day showing will be on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, where a bunch of semi-big names in skateboarding will be joining more corporate sponsors to honor the art of the rebel from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Skateboarders everywhere will show their love and support for skateboarding by holding fundraisers, contests, protests and demos.
Founded by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC), Go Skateboarding Day began June 21, 2003.
