LOS ANGELES, CA (BDCi) — The list of Oscar nominees was released Thursday before daybreak in Beverly Hills, California by the host Seth MacFarlane and actress Emma Stone who revealed the lucky ones that will compete for the grand prize of the film industry.
“Lincoln” leads the way at the 2013 Oscars. The biopic about the 16th president received twelve nominations including best director for Steven Spielberg and best actor for Daniel Day Lewis. Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi” followed close behind with eleven nominations. “Les Miserables” and “Silver Linings Playbook” tied for third place with eight nominations each.
This year the Academy’s best actress category features the oldest and youngest actors. “Beasts of the Southern Wild” Quvenzhané Wallis, 9, is up for best actress alongside “Amour” Emmanuelle Riva, 85.
In its eighty-fifth year, the awards ceremony will take place at the Dolbi Theatre in Hollywood, formerly called “Kodak”, and broadcast live to 225 countries around the world by the television network ABC.
And for those who think that this year Brazil has no representative at the Oscars, they would be wrong. Daniel Dreifuss of Minas Gerais is the co-producer of the film “NO”, Chile’s first ever entry in the foreign language films competition.
Host MacFarlane is the creator, animator, screenwriter, comedian, producer, director, singer and voice of the hit Fox show “Family Guy” which is in syndication everywhere.
The second largest cinema awards – the Golden Globes – will be televised for the seventieth time on Sunday January 13th, at 5:00 p.m. in Los Angeles. Instead of an “academy” of former winners, the Golden Globes are voted on by journalists from around the world. Comedic actresses Amy Poelher and Tina Fey will host the production on the NBC network.
