OSLO, NORWAY (BDCi) – A man suspected of killing 84 people at an island youth camp and setting off a deadly bomb at an Oslo government building has been arrested by police.
The man, who Norwegian national broadcaster NRK identifies as 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik, disguised himself as a police officer and went on a shooting spree on the island of Utoya. Even though 84 dead are being attributed to Breivik’s rampage, police are searching the waters bordering the island as many camp attendees headed to the shore to escape from the mad man.
Breivik is also being questioned for the bomb blast outside the prime minister’s office which killed 7 people previous to the island shooting.
The total of 91 deaths represents the second deadliest act of terrorism in western Europe since the Madrid train bombings in 2004.
Although by all accounts, Al Queda was responsible for that episode, there appears no indication so far that radical Islamic terrorism was responsible today in Norway.
