SPAIN (BDCi) – 121 people have been arrested by Spanish police in connection to an internet child pornography ring, reports BBC.
The series of nationwide raids covered 75 countries and uncovered high definition photos of minors from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago.
The arrests were made as part of an ongoing collaboration between Spanish and Brazilian police. The detainees include Spanish nationals and foreigners residing in the country.
Two of the people are said to have used their own children for pornographic purposes. Another 96 people are being charged with possession of child pornography as well as its distribution.
Some 800 officers conducted over 200 searches in about 40 provinces and recovered archives of photos and videos, “some of which show extremely harsh abuse of minors.”
347 hard drives, 1,186 CDs and DVDs and 36 laptops comprise the list of seized items and one Spanish man’s computer contained 120 GB of archives with over 120,000 photos of children.
Furthermore, 18,000 IP addresses have been linked to the network with 1,600 of them being from Spain.
The recently arrested 121 people add to the number of people who have been arrested in Spain for child pornography, making for a total of 1,200 within the past five years.
