Skid Row giveaway for kids
L.A. (BDCi) – The Fred Jordan Mission in downtown L.A. is having its 23rd annual back-to-school Giveaway today! The event is being held at 445 Towne Avenue and started at 9 a.m. They offer new shoes, clothes, and school supplies, all for free.
According to PR Newswire, they have turned Skid Row’s Fifth Street into a giant store. Over 60 Foot Locker associates will be on site, donating athletic shoes and socks for almost 5,000 children.
There will also be around 300 volunteers to help give out all the new goodies, which also include hygiene products, lunch and even haircuts for these inner-city children. For over 20 years these children and their families have been able to count on the Fred Jordan Mission and Footlocker to have them “dressed and ready to learn” for school.
Foot Locker President and CEO Jake Jacobs says, “We are so proud to partner with the Fred Jordan Mission for over two decades on this important Back-to-School giveaway program.”
Wille Jordan, President of Fred Jordan Missions, had this to say about poverty and his own experience with it. “Poverty in America has skyrocketed, and this year’s Back-to-School giveaway is more needed than ever before.” “I was born at the end of the Great Depression, and I still remember going to school one day without shoes, in spite of the fact that both my parents worked. I will never forget.the shame I felt for not having shoes to wear. I am truly grateful to Foot Locker for their 23 years of partnership with the Mission.”
