SÃO PAULO (BDCi) – The city of São Paulo, capital of São Paulo state, is the largest city in Brazil and one of the country’s main economic hubs.
Here you will find the city’s five most expensive neighborhoods and a little information on why it costs so much to live in any of them.
5) Starting off in the southern center of São Paulo city, Moema boasts a high level of quality of life and is home to a significant number of American expats. The neighborhood is also located near the Congonhas airport.
4) Jardim Europa is in São Paulo’s westside, where upscale housing is found alongside various cultural institutions, with the luscious Parque de Povo nearby. The neighborhood is also home to several Brazilian celebrities, including soccer star Kaká.
3) Another westside neighborhood is Morumbi, famous for its upscale houses and the fact that the State Government’s Headquarters are found here, as well as the governor’s residence. Morumbi is within close proximity of the University of São Paulo, important hospitals and the popular Cidade Jardim Mall.
2) Itaim Bibi can also be found on the westside, but what sets this neighborhood apart from others is that it is surrounded by important structures like the Hyatt Hotel and the Globo TV network. Itaim Bibi is also close to Parque de Povo and several financial centers.
1) Finally, the most expensive São Paulo city neighborhood is the Ibirapuera/Vila Nova Conceição area, whose residential housing is made up of mostly buildings, not houses. The nearby Parque Ibirapuera is the city’s most important park, host to many significant cultural events every year.
Needless to say, living in these city neighborhoods does not come cheap, where the price per square meter ranges from about $3,200 in Moema to a little over $4,300 in the Ibirapuera/Vila Nova Conceição area.
