(BDCi) — Sao Paulo have called on the German justice system to release former Bayern Munich defender Breno from prison and allow him to leave the country in order to join them.
Breno,24, was sentenced to three years and nine months in July 2012 after setting fire to his house while under the influence of alcohol in September of the previous year.
The Brazilian is currently on day release and has taken up a role working for Bayern’s youth department.
He now hopes to be fully released from prison in the next few months in order to fulfill his contractual obligations in Brazil.
While still in prison, Breno signed a contract with his former side Sao Paulo in December 2012 and the club has now written a letter to the player’s lawyers requesting his release.
The letter states that Breno has to attend his first training session in Brazil in April or otherwise the contract will be terminated.
