RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (BDCi) — Brazil legend Ronaldo scored in an exhibition match to mark the re-opening of the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
The iconic venue has been renovated ahead of the World Cup 2014.
Ronaldo’s team won 8-5 against a side led by Selecao legend Bebeto, thanks to a fantastic performance by their skipper and he was delighted after participating in the match.
“Another stadium has been delivered. The Maracana is a symbol for football and I am so happy to be a part of this celebration,” the three-time World Player of the Year told reporters.
“It was a last minute thing but that’s how it goes. We are happy with the result. The pitch is sensational. The stands are beautiful, so are the internal facilities, everything is really good.”
The 1994 and 2002 World Cup winner then voiced his belief that Brazil is still a force to be reckoned with in the world of football ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
“Brazil is going to give a big lesson to the world and to those which didn’t think it would be possible to hold this World Cup and Confederations Cup.”
