RIO DE JANEIRO (BDCi) – Brazilian police have arrested 11 people and shut down a gang trying to sell illegal World Cup tickets.
The international ring reportedly generated as much as $90 million.
Among the 100 confiscated tickets were those meant for sponsors and officials from the Brazilian team.
Police suspect that some tickets were sold to several tourists.
Computers, American money, cellphones and documents were also seized.
The suspected leader of the gang is Mohamadou Lamine Fofana, an Algerian national with access to restricted World Cup areas.
The gang faces charges of money laundering and criminal association.
