Over 50 abused animals rescued
SANTA CLARITA (BDCi) – 58 abused and malnourished farm animals were taken from a backyard butcher, prompting LA County Animal Control officers to call it one of the worst animal cruelty cases ever seen.
Two dozen goats and sheep, five cows, 19 fowl and a horse and cat were rescued from a home with unsanitary conditions in Santa Clarita.
The homeowner has been classified as a “backyard Butcher,” a person who owns farm animals and kills them for their own consumption.
But evidence seems to indicate the man was selling the meat, which is illegal to do.
The Gentle Barn, an animal rescue organization founded by Ellie Laks, has taken in most of the seized animals.
Laks commented that the animals “pretty much had two feet in the grave.”
