Nogueria-Werdum fight set for June

(BDCi) — Heavyweights Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum are set to fight for a second time.

The accomplished Brazilian pair, who serve as opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2,” debuting later this month on Brazilian television, headline June 8’s UFC on FUEL TV 10.

The fight was confirmed on “UFC Tonight”.

Fortaleza, Brazil’s Paulo Sarasate Gymnasium is expected to host the card, though Zuffa has not officially announced a location.

Nogueira, 36, handed Werdum, 35, a decision loss during the first round of Pride’s open-weight grand prix during the summer of 2006.  The former Pride champion and UFC interim champion is 4-3 since 2008, and has struggled to remain injury free. Nogueira’s most recent fight, at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro, ended in a second-round armband over Dave Herman.

After returning to the octagon in 2012 after a notable stint in Strikeforce, which included a stunning submission of Russian champion Fedor Emelianenko, Werdum (16-5-1) dominated Roy Nelson and Mike Russow. The contest with Nogueira (34-7-1) marks Werdum’s professional fighting debut in his home country.
