Memorial held for slain USC students
WEST ADAMS, CA (BDCi) – USC students gathered Wednesday night (11) to remember Ming Qu and Ying Wu, two Chinese graduate students that were shot and killed near campus.
Police believe a lone gunman opened fire on the two students at around 1 a.m., as they sat inside a BMW in the 2700 block of Raymond Avenue, outside Wu’s house.
Initial reports say the shooting may have occurred during a robbery or carjacking attempt.
Some neighbors report hearing up to three gunshots as well as seeing a man flee the area on foot, without any description, however.
Police hope that nearby street cameras will provide information about a suspect.
The USC campus police are also working hard with the LAPD to solve the crime.
USC officials are expected to announce Friday (13) that they will reward $125,000 for information leading to the gunman.
Qu and Wu were both 23 and studying electrical engineering at USC.
Police say the two were friends and would often spend evenings chatting on Wu’s porch, just feet away from the shooting took place.
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators with Southwest Area Homicide at (213) 485-2417.
Anonymous callers can contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
