LA Galaxy continue preseason prep against FC Shirak

CARSON, CALIFORNIA (BDCi) — The LA Galaxy continue their preseason preparations against FC Shirak of the Armenian Premier League on Saturday night at StubHub Center.

Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said he will continue his low-key approach to such preseason matchups with testing player combinations for example but that doesn’t mean he will overlook the Armenian team.

FC Shirak was founded in 1958 and is the reigning Aremian Premier League champion. They won the Armenian Super Cup last year. Also impressive is the team made it to the second qualifying round of the 2013-14 UEFA Champions League.

“I did notice that when we had talks about playing them,”Arena admitted. “They’re not a team of no quality. I would imagine they’re going to have some pretty good players and probably will be a difficult team for us to play at this time of year.”

The Galaxy are only in their second week of preseason training and are coming off a 2-2 tie with Chivas USA in a closed-door scrimmage earlier this week, but Arena said he is generally pleased with the team’s progress.

He’ll be looking to see more of that with a few twists in the lineup.

“We want to see a few different combinations,” he said. “All the practice games we have played to date we’ve mixed the lineup a little bit. We’ll do the same on Saturday as well.”
