L.A. votes to repeal dispensary ban

L.A. votes to repeal dispensary ban
L.A. (BDCi) – The Los Angeles City Council approved a repeal of a ban on medical marijuana on Tuesday (9), with a 11-1 vote.

The council passed an ordinance that banned all storefront medical marijuana dispensaries in July, but still allowed patients as well as licensed caregivers to grown their own cannabis.

The “gentle ban” also allowed three or fewer people to grow marijuana together.

Supporters of medicinal marijuana bashed the ordinance, which they said denied medicine to chronically ill patients.

But many fear that even if ordinances are passed, there is no guarantee that dispensaries will be allowed to remain in operation.

It is the hope of some council members that a new federal crackdown on L.A. dispensaries may achieve what they sought to do with the ban.

Marijuana is still illegal under federal law.
