Hurricane-like winds cause power outages, including LAX
L.A. (BDCi) – Forecasters are saying that the strong winds pummeling Southern California could be the strongest offshore wind event in recent years, leaving roughly 25,000 people without power.
Trees were knocked down, downed power lines sparked fires and debris flew everywhere.
Forceful winds knocked out power in El Segundo, La Cañada, Venice, Westchester and Marina del Rey.
A power outage hit LAX and lasted for about an hour, affecting all terminals, other airport facilities and causing three international flights to divert to LA/Ontario International Airport.
A high wind warning is in effect until noon today for the Los Angeles County coast, including Downtown.
Northeast winds up to 40 mph and gusts of 60 mph below passes and canyons are expected from Malibu to Hollywood.
Several schools are closed today including:
-Pasadena Unified -Arcadia Unified -San Marino Unified -South Pasadena Unified -Alhambra Unified -Monrovia Unified -San Gabriel schools -Temple City schools -Glendale schools -Duarte schools -Azusa schools -Glendora Unified -Pasadena City College
