Ghanaians granted asylum in Brazil

CAXIAS DO SUL (BDCi) – Fans from Ghana have eagerly been awaiting news of whether or not they will be granted asylum in Brazil after coming for the 2014 World Cup and deciding to stay.

More than 200 Ghanaians have cited a religious conflict in the West African country as their reason for requesting asylum in Brazil.

On Monday (4), Brazilian authorities granted an initial one-year permit for the Ghanaians to stay and work in the South American nation.

Other Ghana fans have even made their way to neighboring Argentina and Ecuador, while others are en route to the U.S.

Brazil’s Ghanaian embassy is carrying out an investigation into the claims of religiously-fueled fighting.
