Ghanaian fans seek asylum in Brazil

CAIXAS DO SUL (BDCi) – Ghanaian Muslims who came to Brazil as World Cup tourists have asked the country for asylum on religious grounds.

It was reported that some 200 Ghanaians asked for asylum this past Friday (4) after legally entering Brazil to watch Ghana’s matches in Fortaleza, Natal and Brasília.

The fans from Ghana are hoping to escape the violence between the different Muslim groups back home.

The justice ministry will decide whether or not to grant their requests for asylum.

Ghana finished last in its group after a draw with Germany and losing to Portugal and the U.S.
