LIBYA (BDCi) – After being on display for five days, Muammar Gaddafi has been buried. Joining him are his son Nutassim and army chief Abu Baker Younis, reports BBC.
BBC could not find anyone who attended the services to speak publicly about details, but they did speak with Sheikh Khaled Tantoush, a loyal cleric during the regime who is now imprisoned in Misrata.
“Yes. They let us clean him and do what Islamic people do when a Muslim dies.”
As for the morbid five-day stint he says, “I do not know why they did that. It is not a question for me.”
The delay came partly from disagreements between Misrata fighters who caught Gaddafi and Benghazi politicians preparing to run the country, providing proof of the deep political rivalries being played out in major Libyan cities. Some also needed to see the colonel’s body as proof of the four-decade regime’s end.
Gaddafi, Mutassim and Younis are buried in an unmarked grave, in some part of the vast Libyan Desert.
