BRAZIL (BDCi) – Brazil is facing heavy rains and flash floods. Severe weather is punding the states of Mina Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espirito Santo, with flooding already affecting several areas and the risk of mudslides on the rise.
January is expected to see an average of just under fib inches of rain, but some areas have reported that same amount of rain in just a 24-hour frame.
Many homes in the affected areas lie on hillsides, rendering any movement on the ground a potentially disastrous event.
The city of Belo Horizonte has already been hit with mudslides and six people have already been killed by Brazil’s severe weather.
Evacuations have begun for people living in other dangerous regions.
