Evacuation ordered in Perris brush fire PERRIS, CA (BDCi) — Firefighters are battling a brush fire in Perris that has burned at least 100 acres and temporarily threatened homes. The fire — dubbed the Garza fire — broke out around 2:30 p.m. near Garza and Yucca Roads. As of 8:30 p.m., the fire has burned over 100 acres and is 60% contained. As many as 30 homes were forced to evacuate shortly after the fire, but all evacuation orders have been lifted as of Monday night, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s. About 150 firefighters are working to extinguish the flames on the ground and in the air. Investigators believe the fire was sparked by workers who were welding at a nearby metal salvage yard.
They believe the workers fled the scene a short time later.
