Dangerous landslide underway in San Pedro
SAN PEDRO, CALIFORNIA (BDCi) – San Pedro is on the move with cracks in the street continuing to open up.

A 900-foot stretch of Paseo Del Mar between Weymouth and Western Avenues has been closed to the public since September. City officials say a landslide in the area is getting more serious.

Experts say the ground beneath the street is shifting, leading to crack and fissures in the asphalt.

Earlier this year, officials thought it was just a sink hole, but now the city believes there is a major landslide in progress as pieces of the bluff fall into the sea.

The city says no homes are in immediate danger.

City workers have worked for weeks to divert drains and utility lines, but they believe it is only a matter of time before it gives way.

The city plans to conduct a geological study to determine the extent of the slide and the stability of surrounding land, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office said.
