SAO PAULO, BRAZIL (BDCi) — Corinthians says former Brazil coach Mano Menezes is returning to the team for the 2014 season.
Menezes is replacing Tite, who helped the team win the Copa Libertadores and Club World Cup last year but did not have his contract renewed.
Menezes first coached Corinthians from 2007-10. He helped the club win the second division and return to the top flight in 2008. Under Menezes, Corinthians also won the Brazilian Cup and the Sao Paulo state championship in 2009.
Corinthians struggled this year, finishing only 10th in the 20-team Brazilian league. The team was also eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup.
Menezes was Brazil’s coach from 2010-12, before Luiz Felipe Scolari took over.
