Candidate faces backlash after anti-gay comments

BRASÍLIA (BDCi) – One of Brazil’s lesser known candidates in the upcoming presidential election caused a massive outrage after his remarks about gays at a debate on Sunday (28).

While Levy Fidelix had the floor, he said that Brazil needs to stand up against homosexuals and that they should receive psychological treatment away from the general population.

He added that Brazil’s population might drop due to the fact that “the excretory system” is not a reproductive system.

While a few audience members laughed at Fidelix’s comments, his opponents showed no reaction.

Social media exploded as tens of thousands of users flocked to denounce his words as hateful and homophobic.

Gay rights advocates and activists are now calling for people to file complaints against Fidelix and have asked that TV stations remove him from the final presidential debate this Thursday (2).
