Burgos sister seeks legal permission to buy Zabumba
Los Angeles, CA (BDCi) – Carla Van Bastelaar is seeking a judge’s permission to buy the Brazilian night club and restaurant previously owned by her deceased sister Monica Beresord-Redman.

Her former brother-in-law Bruce Beresford-Redman is still in U.S. federal custody awaiting potential extradition to Mexico where he is being charged for the murder of his wife at a Cancun resort in April 2010.

Van Bastelaar and her sister Jeane Burgos already received legal permission to run the restaurant in the wake of their sister’s murder. Per court papers filed by their attorney May 19th, 2011, the sisters were served eviction notices by the landlord, but the landlord indicated that he would settle if the sisters would pay him $15,000 of the $20,800 in back rent due.

“It is in the best interests of the estate for Zabumba to be immediately sold to Carla,” the sisters’ court papers state. “Carla is offering to purchase Zabumba, including all rights, licenses and assets, while also assuming all of the corporation’s debts and liabilities.”

Van Bastelaar has submitted a formal offer to buy the eatery at 10717 Venice Blvd. from the estate for $1, the court papers state.
