(BDCi) — Olympic Champions Brazil defeated host Japan in straight sets to clinch the Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup.
The South Americans claimed the title with a 29-27, 25-14, 25-18 victory with Fernanda Rodrigues finishing as top scorer in the final with 16 points.
Brazil became the first team to win the title twice following their 2005 triumph. They finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record for 15 points.
“We made some mistakes in the first set,” Brazil captain Fabiano Claudino said. “But we picked up in the second and third sets and started blocking, defending and serving well.”
The U.S. secured the silver medal with a victory over the Dominican Republic while Japan finished third to claim bronze.
