(BDCi) — A bizarre scene unfolded at the Nike International Friendlies in Florida earlier this week where Brazil’s under-17 team refused to keep playing in a 4-1 loss to the United States.
After Brazil picked up a second red card with five minutes to play, their players stopped playing and simply stood at the midfield line with their hands on their hips.

Brazil presumably did it out of frustration. It was the final match of the tournament, they were down two players, they trailed 4-1 and they seemingly just wanted to go home.
U.S coach Richie Williams said via bradenton.com after the game that the second red card must have set off the meltdown. “I thought it was two 100 percent red cards. Obviously they weren’t happy. We would have continued. We passed the ball and they didn’t want to come out and do anything. I’ve never seen anything like that. I don’t quite understand why they did that.”
The U.S won the tournament after the referee called the game with 27 seconds still left on the clock.
