Brazil ex-pres. Lula da Silva accused of ‘pressure’

BRASILIA (BDCi) – A Brazilian high court judge has accused former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of having pressured him to set aside the planned trial of Brazil ex-pres. Lula da Silva accused of ‘pressure’

his administration’s biggest scandal.

The accusation, by Judge Gilmar Mendes of the Supreme Federal Tribunal, comes just months before the August trial of the scandal, in which 38 people are implicated.

The “mensalao” or “big allowance” scandal, which alleges that legislators were paid to vote for the administration’s pet projects, surfaced in the middle of Silva’s first term in 2005, causing several officials to resign.

Silva was never implicated and has denied Mendes’s accusation in a written declaration.
