BRASÍLIA (BDCi) – Brazil held its general elections this past Sunday (5), during which 346 million comments, conversations and other exchanges took place on Facebook, making them the most talked about elections in the site’s history.
These “exchanges” are defined as all shared photos and content, comments, “likes” and conversations.
Half of Brazil’s 200 million residents are connected to the Internet, and with 89 million users recorded per month, Brazil comes in third place for most Facebook users worldwide and in second place for most users on Twitter; some 2.6 million messages were tweeted on voting day.
The recent first-round debates also managed to generate 20 million exchanges amongst Brazilians.
India, the previous record-holder, earned 227 million exchanges on Facebook during its April and May elections this year.
