Brazil beats Chile in friendly

TORONTO,CANADA (BDCi) — Hulk and Robinho scored to lift Brazil to a 2-1 victory over Chile in a friendly on Tuesday that was a very spirited game and part of World Cup preparations.

Hulk scored in the 14th minute, the goal coming after Oscar intercepted a pass in Chile’s backfield. Oscar sent a long cross to Hulk, who launched a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Chile came back to tie the game in the 71st minute when Eduardo Vargas took a short pass from Jean Beausejour  and launched a long shot that landed in the left corner of the goal.

Brazil took the lead in the 80th minute when Robinho headed a perfectly placed cross from Maicon.

“They played very well,” Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said through a translator. “You could see that we created several opportunities for goals. We didn’t have more than two goals, but we had seven or eight opportunities and I think that we played well.”

This match marked the first time Brazil has played in Canada in 20 years and the first in Toronto. The Brazilians last played in Edmonton in 1994 and settled for a 1-1 tie with the Canadians.

This was the last match of 2013 for the Brazilians as they continue to prepare for the 2014 World Cup in which they are the hosts.
