Beverly High tunnel approved by MTA
BEVERLY HILLS, CA (BDCi) – Plans to dig a tunnel under Beverly Hills High School have been approved by the MTA Board of Directors as part of the Purple Line extension.
The ‘Subway to the Sea’ project will extend the Purple Line nine miles towards L.A.’s westside.
The Board of Directors plan for the subway to run from downtown L.A. to Westwood, with stops in several places, like Beverly Hills and Century City.
But the plan to dig 70 feet below the high school has been met with resistance.
The city of Beverly Hills says there is methane gas as well as oil wells underneath the school.
City officials say they are prepared to take the matter to court if Metro does not re-route the subway to under Santa Monica Boulevard.
