MADRID,SPAIN (BDCi) — Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino has revealed that Neymar has been sent on vacation to Brazil in order to give him extra rest.
The Brazilian international enjoyed a shortened summer break due to his participation in the Confederations Cup and Martino believes the attacker is in need of some extra time off after making 23 appearances in his debut European season.
Neymar is suspended for this weekend’s La Liga match against Getafe and therefore Martino has therefore opted to send Neymar home to his native country three days earlier than initially planned.
“Neymar will go to Brazil this Thursday where he’ll have 10 days of rest,” Martino stated at a press conference.
“He’s practically had no rest for months. He’s adapted well to the club and he knows the role he has to play. He’s very loved by everyone.”
The 21-year-old has notched 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Barcelona this season.
The former Stantos star will return to the Barcelona club on January 2 prior to the Liga meeting with Elche two days later.
