WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND (BDCi) – A series of tremor within 90 minutes of each other hit the city of Christchurch on Monday (13), less than the four months after the tremor that killed 181 people.
At least one building collapsed, trapping two people briefly. Dust billowed into the air, and power was cut to about 10,000 homes. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was magnitude 5.2.
first quake, a magnitude 5.2, was centered 9 kilometers east-southeast of Christchurch at a depth of 11 kilometers and struck at 1 p.m., according to USGS.
A second quake, a more powerful 6.0 tremor, struck at 2:20 p.m., roughly 13 kilometers north-northeast of the city at a depth of 9 kilometers.
