LOS ANGELES, CA (BDCi) — t’s finally the weekend and a great movie always soothes the soul. Lee Daniels, The Butler is in theaters and is getting raves from critics all over the United States.
So how long is it and what is it about? Well, here you go. The film runs about 2 hours, 12 minutes and is rated PG-13. If you are looking for a story rich in history of American Politics, as well as a star studded cast, this is going to be a must see for you.
The cast includes the likes of Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, Terrence Howard, Vanessa Redgrave, Robbin Williams, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lenny Kravitz, and many more. The film features Whitaker as Cecil Gaines, Winfrey as his wife Gloria, and is based off the true events of Eugene Allen’s 34 year career as the butler to 8 presidents in the White House.
The movie explores the ongoings in American politics during the Civil Rights movement, as well as Vietnam. It then takes the audience on a journey through present day Washington D.C. in 2008, when President Obama was elected the first African-American President of the United States. Not only is the story gripping in terms of the turmoil the American people have struggled to survive through the last 34 years, but the plot also focuses on the perceptions and personal life of Cecil Gaines (Whitaker) through his years in the White House.
Reviews by critics are mainly positive with such remarks by Rolling Stone Magazine saying, “ Whitaker’s reflective powerfully understated performance fills this flawed film with potency and purpose.” Rotten Tomatos said of the film that it is, “Gut-wrenching and emotional.” The consensous seems to be the same among all critics that the actors in this film gave great performances and one will find themselves entertained. However, the script appears to be uneven in thought. Never the less, all sources find the film worth viewing.
