U.S University to offer Plan B pill in vending machines
SHIPPENSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA (BDCi) – Students at a college in Pennsylvania can now buy Plan B, the so-called “morning-after pill” as easily as they buy a bag of chips or soda.
The emergency contraceptive is now available in vending machines at Shippensburg University.
Students pay $25 for one dose at a vending machine inside the health center.
School officials say the decision to sell the pill in vending machines was made to help students feel more comfortable.
“We had some conversations with them and they did a survey of the student body, and we got an 85 percent response rat that the students supported Plan B in the House Center,” Dr. Roger Serr VP of Student Affairs at Shippensburg University, told local station WHP.
The university does not profit from selling Plan B.
The pill can be legally sold over-the-counter to anyone over the age of 17. Plan B contains hormones that are meant to disrupt ovulation or prevent fertilization from happening.
